This very sweet female mix Rottie was rescued this past July over by the bridge of the Pitillal River, Puerto Vallarta, near the Starbucks at Peninsula.

Malka II  needs a superb home where she will be faithful and loyal to her owners.  She is extremely intelligent and obedient.  She is approx. 3 years old has been vaccinated and spayed.

Everywhere you go  in this area, the vegetation is breath-taking. Can you imagine Puerto Vallarta without such gorgeous colorful plants and flowers surrounding us? I definitely can´t, my plants are a very important part of my life.

The flora we have here is unique and lush, thanks to the tropical weather and the heavy rains we enjoy in the summer. Our jungle is full of invaluable plants, such as palm trees, bugambillias and orchids (300 species found in the Sierra Madre Occidental). There are hard-wood trees, among them parotas and amapas, used for making furniture; mango and guanabana trees (delicious fruits!)  and the beautiful papelillo trees, with their reddish color and peeling skin.

A walk on the mountains is a must, a real pleasure to enjoy both the flora and the fauna of this great area. Choose a place that will allow you to end your walk relaxing by a river, delicious!

Hay muchas cosas padres que hacer en Puerto Vallarta, sea usted residente o turista. Pero no cabe duda que este lugar suma a sus grandes atractivos, el privilegio de recibir cada año a las ballenas jorobadas (también conocidas como ballenas Yubarta). Se llaman así debido a que tienen una pequeña protuberancia en la parte de la aleta dorsal y cuando se arquea el cetáceo esa protuberancia se ve como si fuera una jorobita.

Estos enormes mamíferos, que pueden vivir entre 40 y 60 años y miden entre 12 y 13 metros de longitud, vienen a estas aguas templadas para dar a luz o aparearse. La bahía les permite proteger y jugar con sus crías, quienes se alimentan aquí tranquilamente y ganan peso antes del regreso al norte.

La espera para verlas puede ser larga, pero la recompensa grande. El momento de divisarlas en el horizonte captura nuestra atención sin duda, ¡quién no grita al ver los soplos de agua! No importa si solamente muestran sus lomos en la superficie para sumergirse de nuevo o si nos toca verles las aletas. Claro que lo más espectacular es verlas saltar, se siente una gran emoción ante la magnitud de estos hermosos cetáceos. A veces, desde las orillas de la playa o al caminar en el Malecón, tenemos la suerte de admirarlas sin salir de tierra.

Aunque se les puede ver desde fines de noviembre, la temporada oficial para tours empieza el 15 de diciembre y termina el 31 de marzo. Si están en estas fechas en la Bahía de Banderas, no dejen de ir a verlas. ¡Las disfrutarán enormemente!

In Mexico, the Dead is both respected and feared, and it has been the topic of one of the most popular and beautiful traditions in our country. The Day of the Dead is traced back to Pre-Hispanic times , where skulls were displayed in public as a symbol of death and rebirth.

The festival that became the modern Day of the Dead fell in the ninth month of the Aztec calendar, at the beginning of August and was celebrated for an entire month. The festivities were dedicated to the “Lady of the Dead”, corresponding to the modern Catrina.

This tradition has changed through the centuries, mixing some ancient costumes which celebrated their divinities, with some catholic traditions honoring the dead loved ones. All Saints´Day on November 1st remembers deceased children and infants (also known as Día de los Angelitos) and All Souls´ Day, on November 2nd is to remember deceased adults.

The orange Mexican marigolds, called cempasúchitl, are known as the “Flower of the Dead”, cultivated especially for this celebration. They are used in the shrines, or altars, and are believed to attract the souls of the beloved ones back to their homes. Apart from the flowers, the altars also include candles, sugar skulls, the deceased´s pictures, favorite food, alcohol and some personal items.

Sugar skulls are gifts that can be given to both the living and the dead. Other holiday foods include pan de muerto, sweet egg bread made in various shapes from plain rounds to skulls and rabbits, often decorated with white frosting to look like twisted bones.

On this special day, cemeteries all around the country get extremely crowded. Thousands of people gather to clean the graves of their loved ones. They bring flowers and live music, making it a very happy reunion.

The Dead has become a very important feature in the Mexican popular art, and some artists have created very distinguished characters. José Guadalupe Posada created a famous print of a figure he called “La Calavera de la Catrina” (“Calavera of the female dandy”), as a parody of a Mexican upper-class female. Posada´s striking image of a costumed female with a skeleton face has become associated with the Day of the Dead, and Catrina figures are a prominent part of these celebrations.

The 2012 United States Presidential Election Season is almost upon us.

It’s time to start thinking now about registering to vote for 2012.

Normally, each overseas voter should re-register in January for the entire year. However, overseas voters from the below three states should submit a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) now to ensure they have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming early Presidential Primary Elections:

*New Hampshire: primary date TBD* (At this time, New Hampshire has not determined its Presidential Primary date).

*South Carolina: primary date January 21, 2012

* Florida: primary date January 31, 2012

Please visit http://www.fvap.gov to get started, the process only takes a few minutes.

Many states allow you to vote only in the year your ballot request (Federal Post Card Application “FPCA”) is received (which is why we advise re-registering in January of each year), but due to the early primary dates, these three states have made an exception. These states allow you to submit your FPCA now in 2011 so that you receive your state ballot and return it in time to be counted for these primaries.

 However, to ensure you are eligible to vote in the other 2012 elections, including the General Presidential election, you must submit an FPCA AGAIN in January of 2012. Voters from other early primary states should submit their 2012 FPCA early in January to ensure they will be able to vote in their states primaries.

Ya está entrando el otoño de Bahía de Banderas y si se  ha sentido el cambio.  Ya que el clima es increíble en esta época pues en el dia esta totalmente soleado y con temperaturas no tan altas y la humedad bajo a un 30 o 40 por ciento.  Deja de llover todos los días y solo llegamos a tener una o dos lluvias a la semana hasta que dentro unas semanas deja de llover completamente. 

En las tardes hay pocas nubes y el atardecer empieza a pintar las nubes con unos colores naranjas, rosados, morados hasta que se mete el sol.  

 

Las montañas de color verde que se intensifican con el rayo del sol.

Everything is as usual for the month of October after the threatening storm that had been lingering for more than 48 hours “Jova”.

There are sunshine and blue skies in Puerto Vallarta and the whole Bay of Banderas.

We are all relief that the Hurricane lost strength as it entered land and the magical Sierra Madre Mountains lowered its tremendous winds. It gracefully went away leaving little or no rain behind.

In difference to Kena, this time we were all prepared and ready. Services continued as normal, there were no power outs or lack of water services.

We are all extremely thankful that our area was safe from any drastic impact from what at some point was considered a Hurricane degree 3.

We invite everyone to visit us as the weather begins to change and cool morning breezes are felt throughout the Bay.

En México durante el mes de octubre celebramos el  Festival Internacional Cervantino (F.I.C.), popularmente conocido como  «Cervantino». Fundado oficialmente en 1972, este 2011 celebrará su emisión número 39.  El Festival tiene como sede la Ciudad de Guanajuato, ciudad colonial ubicada en el centro de la república Mexicana, conocida en la historia de nuestro país por su actividad en la minería.  El Cervantino se institucionalizó en  1972; en su primera emisión contó con la participación de espectáculos de catorce países, México incluido. A partir del año 2000 se inició la costumbre de designar tanto a estados mexicanos y a países o regiones como invitados especiales.

La edición de 2011 convocó a 2800 artistas de veintinueve países, en una variedad de géneros desde la música clásica, folk hasta techno, así como teatro al aire libre, exposiciones de artes plásticas,  Danza, Teatro entre otras disciplinas artísticas.  Cada Festival se desarrolla con un tema este año será  “Los Regalos de la Naturaleza”.

El FIC 2011 tiene como  invitados especiales a  Dinamarca, Finlandia, Suecia, Noruega y el estado mexicano de NAYARIT.  Entre los artistas que se presentarán en la programación  están La Camerata de Oslo, la orquesta Sinfónica de Jazz de Estocolmo, una puesta en escena de Il Postino, la Orquesta Filarmónica de San Petersburg,  una exhibición del pintor oaxaqueño Francisco Toledo.  Participarán bandas alemanas de Rock, Teatro para jóvenes, Circo aéreo, artistas circenses, mucha música electrónica con DJ´s.  Invitados especiales serán artistas del estado de Nayarit. La mayoría de los eventos son de entrada libre, para aquellos que necesiten boletos hay descuentos hasta del 73% para estudiantes universitarios.  Se planea, asimismo, realizar un encuentro entre niños y poetas mexicanos y un grupo teatral francés que realizará una representación de “La flauta mágica” para niños. En el 2011, el festival organizará la primera “Feria del Libro Artístico” dedicada a libros sobre las artes plásticos y del espectáculo.

La organización de la edición cuesta 122 millones de pesos mexicanos, siendo sus patrocinadores el Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA), el Estado de Guanajuato, la Universidad de Guanajuato y la Ciudad de Guanajuato.

La relevancia del Festival Internacional Cervantino es la proyección mundial con la que cuenta, además de tener dentro de su programación  espectáculos artísticos de excelente nivel. El Festival Internacional  Cervantino hace unos años realiza extensiones en otros estados de la república,  Nayarit siendo invitado especial tiene un edificio llamado “Casa Nayarit” ubicado cerca del correo en la ciudad de Guanajuato, donde ya se han estado presentando diferentes espectáculos artísticos. La ciudad de Tepic recibió en la inauguración del festival  este pasado 12 de octubre, la visita de Pierre Dorge & new Jungle Orchestra , espectáculo de Jazz que a más de uno de nosotros nos impactó. 

La Riviera Nayarita  tendrá un espectáculo del Cervantino, este lunes 24 de octubre a las 20:00Hrs  en la plaza principal de Bucerías, Nayarit se presentará el Quinteto Real, ensamble de Tango del país de Argentina. Están más que invitados!
