AMPI Riviera Nayarita Meeting

By Marilyn Newman

Members of AMPI Riviera Nayarita met for their monthly association meeting at one of the newer beachfront developments in the Flamingos area of Nayarit.

Along with updates regarding the new AMPI MLS web site, www.vallartanayaritmls.com, up-coming continuing education courses were announced.  Continuing education is a very important issue for all regional chapters of the association.  A joint Education Committee was formed by the three associations in order to provide quality, in-depth real estate related information to all members in the area.

Another committee recently formed by the three regional chapters is the Communication Committee, headed by Marilyn Newman of Prudential Vallarta, which will serve to provide a comprehensive conduit between the members and the boards, as well as provide valuable information regarding real estate related topics to the general public.

Chapter President Tere Kimball, Prudential Vallarta, said, “We are on the path to making this region the leaders in Mexico real estate”.

Marilyn Newman is a real estate consultant with Prudential California Realty-Vallarta Division.  She can be reached by e-mail at marilyn.newman@prurealtypv.com

Puerto Vallarta Rocks / Flash Mob Dance

Courtesy of PVRPV / Tim Longpré
There will come a day when we’ll look back on all these flash mobs that took place, and ask, “What was that all about?” But that day’s not here yet.

Just over a week ago, a flash mob broke out at Los Arcos Amphitheater on Puerto Vallarta’s famed Malecón to send a message that Puerto Vallarta is safe and to encourage new vacationers to visit the beautiful Mexican Riviera Port City and to welcome back past travelers. Despite the economic downturn up North, 22 million foreigners safely visited Mexico last year. The highly anticipated video has been uploaded to the popular Dailymotion site at http://dai.ly/k2IQHD and event organizers are encouraging everyone to share the video, leave comments and help the video go viral. Organizers, pending music content approval, anticipate posting on YouTube shortly.

The carefully orchestrated dance was choreographed by Kimberly LaRue, co-owner/director of the Bridge for Dance Studios in New York City. Organizers and sponsors of the successful event included Tim Longpré, Gary Green, Donna Davies, Kim LaRue, Antonia Lavender, Ray Dion, Josef Kandoll, Diva Divine, Nacho Daddy, Collage Club, Ballet Xiutla, Paradise Community Center, Sal Fuentes, Bill Brooks, Cindy Ramirez, Margaret Souder and the H. Ayuntamiento de Puerto Vallarta.

The Prudential Vallarta Sales team was proud to receive San Javier Hospital´s Director Jesus Flores at their weekly sales meeting to update them on the hospital´s services and the announcement of the new hospital to open October, 2011 in Nuevo Vallarta at the Paradise Village Business center where a new facility is underway and will offer more medical specialists.

San Javier Marina is a hospital of high technology design and constructed to comply with the standards of quality for medicine and surgery offering an array of specialists to take care of your health needs.

Hospital San Javier Marina has a complete medical and technological team and equipment, constantly evolving and improving.

Jesus Flores went over what Canadian and American Health insurances are accepted at Hospital San Javier Marina as this question arises daily from those looking to purchase real estate.

Sales executive Nicole Martin said ” It´s not so bad to be sick in Puerto Vallarta and it is such a relief to be able to give my clients valid information on how they can apply their Blue Cross/Blue Shield and or Medicare policies at the San Javier Marina Hospital.  It truly helps to be able to show clients such a pristine medical institution and be greeted at the door by the director who is bilingual and fully understands the concerns of a person looking at a facility outside of his own country”

Puerto Vallarta is on the map thanks to beloved Elizabeth Taylor and her time spent in Gringo Gulch

Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor was an American icon, but her death today at age 79 has a special poignancy in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was that sleepy Mexican town that her steamy and tumultuous romance helped build into the thriving resort it is today.

Taylor’s Puerto Vallarta connection dates back to 1963, when Taylor joined actor Richard Burton while he was filming the movie, “The Night of the Iguana.” Both actors were still married, so the paparazzi followed the “It couple” to Mexico after rumors the two were having an affair. The affair made headlines and was condemned by the Vatican.

The two divorced their spouses and remained in Mexico. They loved the seaside town so much, Burton bought a massive 22,900-square-foot home called Casa Kimberley for Liz as a wedding gift. For 11 years, they lived there and in Casa San Angel, another home across the street which was connected by a famous pink bridge.

“The Burton-Taylor romance, plus the movie ‘Night of the Iguana’ meant a lot to Puerto Vallarta,” says Salvador Peña Chávez, Director of Puerto Vallarta’s Tourism Board. “It was the start of the city as a world-class tourist destination.”

In fact, it was their photos of themselves and the surrounding landscape that peaked interest around the world. Puerto Vallarta became the South Beach of the 1960’s, a popular tourist destination for both celebrities and the public. Today, the once-small town of 12,500 has a quarter of a million residents.

Liz Taylor brought more than just tourists to town. During her 11 years there, she founded The Elizabeth Taylor Orphanage and took in children in need.

But Puerto Vallarta is also the place the couple is known to have had tempestuous and very vociferous fights. Eventually, in 1974, they divorced—then remarried in 1975. That second marriage also ended in divorce. Elizabeth Taylor was married eight times in her life.

Today, celebrities still flock to Puerto Vallarta. Kate Hudson was recently spotted there with boyfriend Matt Bellamy. Kevin Costner had a home there, too. More than a dozen movies have been made in the city since “The Night of the Iguana”, including “Predator” in 2008. Word is that city leaders have approved honoring Taylor’s contribution to the city with a public sculpture.

HealthCare Resources Puerto Vallarta

As we finish up the last week of 2010, it is a time to reflect on the past year. We have accomplished a lot of great things and are proud!  We have learned a lot, come up with some new and innovative ideas and it is with great anticipation that we move forward into the New Year. So, hold on to your hats and prepare for a January that is jam-packed with our regular clinics, some new clinics and as well, some great programs.

HealthCare PLUSCard Program

We are continually adding benefits to this discount program which is turning out to be a great success! Check out details at: http://www.healthcareresourcespv.com/pluscard.html

Note! We highly recommend that you follow www.banderasnews.com Not only is this the most informative website on anything and everything going on in the bay, but as well, I will have detailed articles on many of the items listed below. You can go to their home page, scroll to the bottom and click on the HealthCare Resources icon – it will take you to all of our articles.

Emergency Services: Important number to put in your cell phone and on the fridge! Ambulancias Intermedic: 225-9289 or 145-6216. This is a 24-7 private ambulance company that I highly recommend.

These are the four most important points regarding your health care if you are here full time or part time:

1)      Register with your consulate.

2)      Make sure you have insurance that covers you in the area.

3)      Establish yourself with a personal physician.

4)      Remember that you must keep your own medical record here.

For assistance, or questions regarding the above, please contact me!

Blog: For some informative articles along with some “fun stuff” you can follow my blog at www.pampv.wordpress.com You can sign up to receive updates automatically.

Northern Banderas Bay Program

With the northern part of the bay growing by leaps and bounds, we are pleased to announce a new clinic that has opened in San Pancho with a couple of others planned to be opening in the next few months. I will be spending more time “out that way” and I would like to put together a separate email list for those living in that area. Please email me if you would like to be included in this list. We are working on a “HealthCare PLUS Card Program” specifically for these areas!

Events Calendar

This is way too long to include in this newsletter – but if you are interested in a copy, please let me know. I have done my best to put together an events calendar for all charity events in the area, so people may plan accordingly.

Now, grab a cup of coffee, your calendar and see what’s happening in January.

A few “ground-rules”:

An item with a double star (**) Indicates a discount for PLUS Card members.

Each and every appointment must be made via HealthCare Resources and not directly with the physician/clinic.

Remember that these are screening clinics only.

Sales Executive Nicole Martin and her Charity of Choice

Published by under Press Release

Prudential´s Nicole Martin takes time away from showing property to her clients, Judith McKay and Suzanne Hethrington, to introduce them to her charity of choice: a cat shelter where 260+ felines roam free on one acre of land. PuRR Poject is a very special location that Nicole takes great pride in showing to visitors who always leave extremely content with many stories to tell.

Judith, with experience at a humane shelter in San Diego, was very curious to actually see with her own eyes how such a large population of cats could live so harmoniously and was enchanted by Simona the bow legged cross eyed feline resident who won her heart. Suzanne found herself enchanted by the kitten nursery and when it came time to leave, it was a very difficult task for her.

Nicole who has been a resident of Puerto Vallarta since 1989 says, “There are so many ways to get involved in Puerto Vallarta´s caring community. Children, the elderly, flora and fauna preservation, dogs — there is a charity for everyone to identify with and get involved in.  I am so happy to have found my place of need at PuRR Project. The wonderful caring people who I have met during my efforts at this amazing shelter bring me the greatest satisfaction I have ever experienced.”

Nicole dedicates all of her “out” time away from the office and real estate to PuRR Project.
