Tianguis Turistico 2012 Puerto Vallarta

This March the Tianguis Turístico 2012 will be held in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit; the official logo was presented a few days ago and here is a brief explanation:
The significance of the logo goes back to elements of our culture, colors and forms give a characteristic symbolism where the ring represents the emblem element of the ball game, a ritual that extended for about 3,000 years of Mesoamerican and Pre-Columbian history. Inside the ring are elements such as a pyramid, representing our culture and roots, leaves representing the natural characteristics of our country; the hands that symbolize negotiations; five diamonds that represent the quality of the touristic destination and Mexico itself; and the waves representing the sea as the symbolism of the event being held in a beach resort destination.
Once again Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit want to show they are a cultural destination, with excellent service and worthy of hosting international events such as the Tianguis Turístico.
For more information about the event visit:

Overseas Voting and the 2012 U.S. Presidential Elections

*Article courtesy of  U.S. CONSULATE GENERAL GUADALAJARA

The 2012 United States Presidential Election Season is almost upon us.

It’s time to start thinking now about registering to vote for 2012.

Normally, each overseas voter should re-register in January for the entire year. However, overseas voters from the below three states should submit a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) now to ensure they have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming early Presidential Primary Elections:

*New Hampshire: primary date TBD* (At this time, New Hampshire has not determined its Presidential Primary date).

*South Carolina: primary date January 21, 2012

* Florida: primary date January 31, 2012

Please visit http://www.fvap.gov to get started, the process only takes a few minutes.

Many states allow you to vote only in the year your ballot request (Federal Post Card Application “FPCA”) is received (which is why we advise re-registering in January of each year), but due to the early primary dates, these three states have made an exception. These states allow you to submit your FPCA now in 2011 so that you receive your state ballot and return it in time to be counted for these primaries.

However, to ensure you are eligible to vote in the other 2012 elections, including the General Presidential election, you must submit an FPCA AGAIN in January of 2012. Voters from other early primary states should submit their 2012 FPCA early in January to ensure they will be able to vote in their states primaries.

Please see the Guadalajara consulate website voting page for more information:  http://goo.gl/bg9Qt

The Real Housewives of El Tigre Nuevo Vallarta

I have been lucky enough to live in Puerto Vallarta Mexico for 11 glorious years since the impressionable age of 10. This is why I really do think I can give you an un “jaded” view of what it is really like to live inside those tall cement walls that also happen to have electric shock barbed wire, El Tigre Golf And Country Club.

I was 9 years old when my parents sprang LIFE CHANGING news that we where to be moving to Mexico for good. Now first of all, at such a young age when you hear the words “Mexico” you AUTOMATICALLY think of the desert, sombreros and men on horses shooting at each other. Maybe all those western movies you watch as a kid really do make you believe that life is actually like this. Well to my delighted surprise it was not! Beaches and jungles and food OH MY! When we first arrived to Puerto Vallarta we lived in Flamingos golf club, which is so different to anything id seen I couldn’t believe it. But to be honest with you at that age stick a pool in the middle of ANY country and you will be happy now add in the crocodiles that lay on the outer part of every little river on that course and I was ESTATIC (constantly asking my grandfather to take out on the cart to look for them, was my own version of Crocodile Dundee)

After moving from Flamingos we moved a few more times, To Nuevo Vallarta , Palmar De Aramara, Punta iguana, Marina Vallarta and finally moving from Marina Golf to El Tigre.  Having been included in the whole house building process made the moving a lot more exciting. Being allowed to plan your room decide what color paint etc etc was way too much fun for a 14 year old girl. Originally the plan was to build a duplex, my grandparents bought the piece of land next to ours so we would know we liked out neighbors no matter what! Sadly enough my grandfather died a few months before we moved in.

My experience living in El Tigre has been the most impactful that any of the latter moves. Pristine bright green grass where NEVER will you see a brown spot, constant security, being able to walk to your gym and if by the time you get there you are tired you can simply go sit in the Jacuzzi and just tell people you worked out. The life that people live inside those gates I honestly feel goes un- appreciated. If all your life you have lived in places like that one you will never understand the little things that make living there so amazing, Along with the BIG things as well.

Never coming from a “rich” family makes me appreciate my parents hard work and dedication to allow my brother and myself the opportunity to realize what you can achieve if you simply put your mind to it and work your tush off.  BUT now imagine if you lift El Tigre and place it 1 country away in Orange County for example. Do you have any idea the amount you must pay to live in places like El Tigre? Its insane.  This amazing community basically gives you the chance to live in style for a lot less then you would back home. So if you cant afford to live in a place like this where you live. Why not decide to invest and vacation this way instead? Because here’s what….If you do decide you want to show your children what hard work gets you. This is a way to do it that will not fail.

La Cruz

A nice refreshing recipe from the Restaurant Black Forest. Lemon sorbet.  500 ml water 500 g white sugar,  4 large lemons, juice and zest. 1 medium egg, whites only whisked separately.  Method:  Heat the water and sugar until the sugar has dissolved. You need to stir constantly for the sugar to dissolve completely. Allow to cool overnight in your refrigerator and add the lemon juice and zest. Stir. Place in chilled bowl of your ice cream maker and process according to manufacturers’ instructions. 10 minutes before it is finished add the already whisked egg whites. If you don’t have an ice cream maker you can still make your own sorbet by following the following procedure: Pour liquid into a pre-frozen metal container and put into the freezer until half frozen (approx. 1 hour). Stir with a metal whisker. Repeat this procedure 3 more times. At the last (4th) procedure add the already whisked egg whites. Return to the freezer until firm. Best let it in the freezer for another 6 hours.  Have a nice summer and remember they are open again on Sunday, June 24th

Punta de Mita

A few messages from PEACE….PEACE needs you!  They have a deadline to build a new roof for their headquarters costing $13,000 USD. The Casa Campesina (farmhouse) has been PEACE’s home base for the past three years and was given to us by the local ejido (a native land-owners association.) PEACE has full use of the house in exchange for restorations and we cannot remain here unless we raise $13,000 and repair our leaky roof. Please give whatever you are able and allow us to stay in our community home!  A new roof will provide the necessary dry space for our alternative school, after school program and PEACE Boutique, as well as a usable work space for staff and community members. It is a safe, clean, and friendly environment that adds stability, integrity, and beauty to the Punta de Mita community.  We do not want to uproot our home. PLEASE DONATE whatever you can by going to http://www.peacemexico.org/donate.php .

Experiences at summer camp can shape a life from childhood into adulthood. PEACE is creating lifelong memories for kids in the Bahia de Banderas who often grow up too fast, and in many cases have never been on an athletic team, taken an art class or participated in any kind of organized activity. Our camps not only give them that experience, but allow them the freedom (they may otherwise not have) to just be kids! These kids are the FUTURE – help us empower them!  Last year we had 300 campers! Your donation of $75 USD will send one child to camp for 3 weeks, helping them retain knowledge from the school year, and allowing them to experience a SAFE, POSITIVE and FUN summer!   We cannot fund our camps without your support. Please help us provide this experience for local children by donating to http://www.peacemexico.org/donate.php

Starting this summer, a traveling classroom will be accompanying our animal clinic to 35 towns! Our fun-loving, bilingual teacher will conduct a literacy-based curriculum about animals and the environment reaching 6,210 kids every year.  In order to educate our youth and continue to spread this powerful message over the course of one year, we need to raise $15,000 USD. Please help us reach our goal by donating to http://www.peacemexico.org/donate.php
